Innovative parking guidance systems from MSR-Traffic ensure smart parking in the underground car park of the Stadtquartier (urban building complex) Wieselburg
Parking guidance systems are an increasingly important component in parking management, especially in times of Smart Cities and Big Data. The systems not only serve as an aid to orientation when looking for a parking space, but also increase the efficiency of the parking areas and protect the environment.
As a result, intelligent parking guidance systems from MSR-Traffic are used in the Wieselburg Stadtquartier to make parking management more efficient. The urban building complex is located in the centre of the city and offers numerous shopping facilities as well as rental flats and a health centre on the top floor.

To manage the parking situation, the parking guidance systems are used here in the newly built underground car park. A total of 2 dynamic outdoor matrix displays are installed in front of the entrance to the underground car park and almost 70 ultrasonic sensors inside the car park.
How is the parking guidance system from MSR-Traffic used?
The dynamic outdoor matrix displays and the ultrasonic sensors with integrated, different status LEDs mounted on the front edges of the parking spaces provide the car driver with information about the current utilisation of parking capacity and show where short-term and long-term parking spaces are available in the underground car park.

The parking guidance system is configured and coordinated by the operator using a software developed by MSR-Traffic. He defines the specific details in the system, such as the number of different parking spaces and the parking space allocation. The car is then automatically guided to the next free parking space.
Solution from MSR-Traffic and MSR-Austria
The project uses parking sensors (Type Cross), Level Controller, PC and the ParkGard® Control Centre (PGCC) Software.

The ultrasonic sensors are used for single space detection and detection of the occupancy status of the parking spaces in the underground car park. The sensor and the LED display are located in the housing. The information is transmitted to the higher-level zone controller PCL-MU-3 via the serial interface.
Based on the principle of the ultrasonic distance measurement, the sensor determines a reflection image. The result of the measurement is then compared with a reference and evaluated using a complex algorithm.
The outcome is transmitted to the control centre via the serial data line. The occupancy status of the parking space is evaluated and displayed by the sensor itself so ensuring an "emergency operation" even if the central control fails.
FEATURES
- Long service life
- Low maintenance
- Power supply and data via one cable
- Small robust housing
- Spring-type terminals on connection module for quick mounting
- On-wall or rail installation, mounting height 2.30–3.20 m
- Integrated, very bright LED signalling (green/yellow/red) - optionally also available as a separate unit
- Cable bushing through the housing bottom (optional)
- LEDs (blue/red) for disabled parking spaces (optional)
- 3rd colour (e.g. yellow) for special functions (optional)
The ParkGard® Control Center (PGCC) establishes the connection to the ultrasonic sensors and displays the counting information on the corresponding LED matrix displays. Furthermore, it enables visualisation of the underground car park in real time and offers simple operation with maximum flexibility.
